Sarah Forrest was the 2010 recipient of The Gordon Foundation MFA Graduate Fellowship. Sarah Forrest began her Fellowship in November 2010, developing new work which was presented in the GSS Galleries in November 2011.

The 2010 selection panel included Becky Anson, Co-director Lowsalt Gallery, Jenny Crowe, Public Art Commissioner, Crowe Commissions, Charles Engebretsen, GSS CPF Co-ordinator, Benjamin Fallon, Curator & Director of Embassy Gallery, Edinburgh, Andrew Miller, Artist & GSS Studio Holder and David Watt, GSS Director.

Forrest’s recent practice has explored the potential within language to shape her own and other people’s perception of things – be this a place, person, object or artwork. During the MFA programme, Forrest created a series of works that positioned her voice, as the artist, in relation to a number of sculptural objects she created and exhibited; the work hovering somewhere between fact and fiction. Over the past nine months Forrest has been furthering her exploration into the inter-relationships between sculpture, video and creative writing, and looking in depth as the role of her voice within her creative practice raising questions of authorship, identity and responsibility.

Born in Dundee 1981 Forrest received her BA Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone Art College, Dundee in 2003. Since then she has lived and worked in Glasgow. As part of her MFA at the Glasgow School of Art Sarah spent one term at the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam. Recent exhibitions include The Spectator Intermedia Gallery, Centre for Contemporary Art Glasgow 2011, DAYS, Transmission Gallery Glasgow, 2010, Hands Across the Fire (GANGHUT) DCA Dundee, L.P.
