Fair Work Statement
At GSS, we are committed to the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First guidance. Our dedication lies in upholding the principles and implementing the practical aspects of Fair Work First across the whole of the organisation.
We continuously review and improve the way we work and promote Fair Work and follow the five dimensions of Fair Work - effective voice; opportunity; security; fulfilment and respect - as follows:
GSS supports the development of a working environment where there is space for people to be heard, in accordance with our EDI Policy, and where people can be who they are and can have a choice to participate.
We provide several structures (both formally and informally) to allow regular and clear communication between our Board, staff team, members and partners.
We collaborate in our work, respectfully exchanging opinions and perspectives, with everyone actively contributing towards organisational development.
We ensure transparent communication between GSS, artists and local communities. Through this we aim to collaborate, seek input and opinions, and constructively explore differences in perspectives.
GSS actively invest in staff development and support learning across the organisation at individual, team and membership level using a range of opportunities, both formally and informally.
We do not use zero hours contracts inappropriately and have no zero contracts in place.
GSS are fully committed to undertake a fair, inclusive, and transparent recruitment process for staff, artists and community opportunities. There is no gender pay gap and all employees carrying out the same role, with the same level of experience, are paid equally.
Our staff handbook reflects our commitment to fostering a flexible and adaptable workplace environment as we understand that each member of staff has unique needs and circumstances.
GSS ensure pay is fair and benchmarked in all roles and all artists are paid in line with Scottish Artists Union recommended rates of pay and we are committed to Paying the Real Living Wage across the staff team.
We encouraging and support employees to adopt healthy working practices through the provision of being family friendly, working from home and offering flexible working where possible.
We organise team development days, where staff can develop beyond the workplace, in different environments.
We promote and look after the mental wellbeing of our staff and have a network of Mental Health First Aiders in the staff team at GSS. Additionally, we engage in government-funded programmes to support our staff and members such as Working Health Services Scotland.
GSS recognise the importance of consistent employment and job stability, and we aim to offer transparency as far as possible. We do not use fire and re-hire practices.
We have zero tolerance for bullying and/or harassment. We review and update our the staff handbook, code of conduct and policies annually to ensure employees and members are aware of their rights and policies within GSS.
