Ritu Arya is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Glasgow

A textile design graduate from India, she worked in the lifestyle & music industry for about a decade before moving to Glasgow for the MFA programme at The Glasgow School of Art. Ritu has exhibited her work in Cologne, Glasgow, and Dundee over the past few years and was recently awarded the RSS Gilbert Bayes Grant [2023].

Working in conjunction with materials, their textures & moods, my practice entails inspecting, dissecting, and attempting to voice the lingering [psychological and physical] remains of untended trauma in day-to-day life. While I also work with films, images, and several other mediums, my primary mode of communication is clay. My sculptures are primitive and archaic in nature, and with visible hints of anatomy, they contain cracks, cavities, and openings, along with fragments of my agitation and void, all the while also holding space - space for individual interpretation and analysis.
