James McLardy

Through appropriations of surface techniques such as, faux marbling, encaustic painting and gilding alongside manipulated lumps of brightly pigmented wax, James McLardy‘s sculptures embrace, misdirect and abstract. Dressed up in fake-façades these forms and fragmented arrangements forge unstable material relationships. Whether detailed, laboured, or through more immediate processes these surfaces represent his interest in questioning notions of aesthetical and materialist authenticity through quizzical and sometimes comic means.
