Ciaran Cannon

Ciaran Cannon is an emerging artist based in Glasgow. He graduated in Fine Art (Sculpture and Environmental Art) (BA Hons. 1st Class) from Glasgow School of Art in 2022 and was awarded the Benno Schotz prize for Sculpture.

Embracing the queer qualities of nature, Ciaran's work explores interconnectedness and change through found and salvaged materials and objects. Acknowledging human impact on the world and recognising circularity through methods of making are central to his practice. Abandoned and overlooked objects become sculptures and installations, reclaiming their place in the world, seen and existing in their own right.

Seeking out abandoned spaces in cities and observing the transformative actions of natural processes inspires curiosity and playfulness. Through varied media - found objects, wood, metal, photography, video and performance - Ciaran explores the parallels between queerness and forgotten and discarded places and things, celebrating uniqueness and sameness.

Public exhibitions have included 'Circular Angle' – part of the Old Contemporaries exhibition at New Glasgow Society East (2022), 'Vital Invertebrates' at the Hidden Gardens (2022), and 'Vibrant Energy' at Glasgow Buddhist Centre (2020). He will show work at the Hidden Door Festival, Edinburgh in June 2023.
